“A Bold Stare”
This is a photograph I call “A Bold Stare” and a bit about the shot. I woke up very early a few times when I was in Clearwater, Florida. On this particular day I did so on purpose as I wanted to catch a sunrise on the water. I drove about an hour to the boardwalk at John’s Pass Village. The early morning colors in the sky were promising but only for a short period. I noticed rain clouds quickly approaching so I changed out my Irix 15mm for the Sigma 150mm-600mm Contemporary and started looking for birds.
The shot
The same birds I had seen everywhere so far on the trip were here too, Pelicans, Turnstones, etc… I then noticed a Snowy Egret rather close to me. It was not frightened by me or my long lens and it checked me out. Then out of nowhere it gave this stoic, cold, stare. Not just any stare, a bold stare after dipping it’s bill into the water. I took the shot and it turned out great! I’m not sure what it is about certain birds that mesmerize me, but Snowy Egrets are birds that do. I could watch them for long periods of times and not get bored doing it.
More from my trip
I have other photos from Florida, another Snowy Egret that I call “Stand Tall“. That Egret also had a bold stare, just not as bold as this one! I also made my way to The Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo, FL. There you will find an amazing array of beautiful plants and flowers. I have a few photos for sale in the flowers category. All to this day (July 2, 2019) are from The Florida Botanical Gardens like this Plumeria I simply titled “Yellow“.
As the days go along I will be adding to all categories to keep bring you new photos!
